About Us

The Australian Local Government Women’s Association was formed to support and encourage women’s participation in Local Government as elected members and as council officers.

As the peak body for women in local government ALGWA is the strong, collective voice for local democracy. It is the preeminent leader in a community of dynamic and passionate women in Local Government.

We are committed to our intent of advancing leadership to enhance democracy for all Australians. Our membership, events and promotions, enable women at all levels to stay informed, connected and inspired.

We are excited to lead change and create a strong, collective voice for our communities by the bringing together of extraordinary women from across the country.

Our vision is to achieve gender equality in Australian local government.

Strategic Plan

To ensure that ALGWA remains effective, vibrant and focused, we ensure our strategic plan is a living document that is updated annually. It is our guiding focus to move us forward into the future, in a bid to do justice to the original purpose laid down for us back in 1951.

Constitution

While our strategic plan empowers us daily, it is our Constitution that guides our power to act. Written originally in 1951 and then updated with amendments that make it a living document, we ensure that our Constitution is relevant as much today as it was back then.
