Member Benefits

Why should you join?

The Australian Local Government Women’s Association supports and promotes women in local government through advice, advocacy, connecting and mentoring. We are collaborating to support women to thrive, connect and excel in Local Government—and we want you!

By joining ALGWA, you join an organisation of women who have stood before you and are willing to support you through your journey. ALGWA was first established in 1951 to support women's participation in local government, with the WA Branch forming in 2002. We’ve come a long way in representation since then, but we still have a long way to go.

We want you:

  • More members from far and wide - rural, remote, regional and the cities.
  • More members from diverse backgrounds, cultures, faiths, and lived experiences.
  • More members with a broad range of talents, professions, and career experience.

Together, we can make all women in Local Government stronger and further our vision to achieve gender equality in Australian Local Government.

How do you join?

The Australian Local Government Women’s Association is always encouraging new people to become members and strengthen the incredible organisation we have spread throughout the States and Territories.

Memberships are offered by ALGWA State or Territory branches, depending on where you live and work. Visit the State Branches page to learn more.
